work place revolution

Have a look at this funny site - Job? fuck it!
I can imagine Coombs being the ideal place for this to happen!

Home is... (where the lard is)

This morning some time after his breakfast, Poktori proved himself to be a good neighbour, lying all ready for food and cuddles at Dane and Heajin's door. Bloody defector... (warning, clicking on the picture will show a larger version of this picture of an extremely lazy, overweight blob which hardworking visitors to this blog may find offensive) RHM

Korean romanisation

This is exactly why I ignore Korean attempts at trying to tell me how to romanise han'gûl. Click on the picture to enlarge. Long live McCune-Reischauer... RHM

Pakistan ad from 1955

Good thing I just got my hair cut again... My friend Willem van Schendel sent me this fantastic ad from a Pakistani newspaper from 1955. Click on the picture to see it enlarged. Another example of why the 1950s are so fascinating... RHM

Kim Sisters - 2

Gayle [Andy] Anderson, a former pilot for the US military in Korea (Pilot C-47; 6461st Troop Carrier Squadron [Kyushu Gypsies]), took this picture of the Kim Sisters some time in 1954, some five years before they were offered a contract by Tom Ball, owner of the China Doll Nightclub in New York. With special thanks to Mr Anderson and Mr. Bill Chilcoat for allowing me to reproduce this very rare picture. RHM

Colonial ad

How about this for a cheeky ad? Came across it at Melbourne airport on my way home. I hope it's meant as a kind of mockery of tourist ads, but if not... RHM

Anne Franga

I came across this manga in a store in Melbourne. Atom Boy teaching kids about the diary of Anne Frank, a Dutch-Jewish girl who died towards the end of World War II in a nazi camp, after living in hiding in a house in Amsterdam. RHM

Baby possum

Yes, we know, here in Canberra possums are nothing special. We all have the sound of an old table-dust buster on our roofs every once in a while. But this little baby possum was sitting outside my work office. He liked the smell of the cheese I left on a branch near him, though he dared not to come eat it. With my dear friends Dane and Heajin away on academic business, I hope he'll work on his mini engine sound. It's much too quiet here. :o( RHM
